Assessing Modeling

Rubrics

The Team Rubric below was adapted from the GAIMME Report by our research team and then adapted by teachers who used the rubric in their classroom. The Individual Rubric was created by Geena Taite and also used by teachers in the classroom.

At the end of each modeling class, students reflect on and provide evidence for their contributions to their team with the process reflection. This helps the teacher determine their score for the Process row of the Individual Rubric.

The individual rubric can be uses by the teacher to asses an individual's contribution to a group modeling task.

The process reflection can be used by the teacher to have students reflect on their individual process and contribution to a team modeling problem. Teachers can have the students fill out the form for each class period of work on a modeling problem.

Reflection Handout

When students present their team's model, it is important for students in the audience to think critically about their peers' solution while also relating it to their own. This handout provides students with some guiding questions to help them reflect more intently on their peers' solution.
